Survivor of T-Bone Hill
Wiley Walter Virden, Jr., earned a Silver Star and four other medals when serving in combat in the Korean War. He earned the right to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C. Wiley chose to be buried in the Virden family cemetery near the town where he was raised in Georgia. An official military headstone for his grave was approved by the United States Government and a nephew was given an official United States of America Flag provided in honor of the Army Veteran after his passing away.
To honor the Master Sergeant, a formal wreath laying ceremony was held at Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on August 6, 2019. A wreath was presented by his nephew.
