Survivor of T-Bone Hill
Wiley Walter Virden, Jr., earned a Silver Star and four other medals when
serving in combat in the Korean War. He earned the right to be buried
in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C. Wiley chose to
be buried in the Virden family cemetery near the town where he was raised
in Georgia. An official military headstone for his grave was approved
by the United States Government and a nephew was given an official United
States of America Flag provided in honor of the Army Veteran after his
passing away.
To honor the Master Sergeant, a formal wreath laying ceremony was held at Arlington
National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on August 6, 2019. A wreath
was presented by his nephew.
